I’ve Got Questions
Am I welcome to worship without being a member?
Christian worship is a public event to learn about, encounter, and celebrate God. Membership is not required. Heaven will be filled with people from all people groups and languages and walks of life. God seeks and welcomes sinners and broken people — we know that because God found and loved on us!
Church is also about loving people and being loved by others. We intend to welcome people as God welcomes. Church is where people are forgiven their worst so they can receive God’s best. We are called to love people through their trials, troubles, doubts and imperfections. We couldn’t do without that ourselves. We intend to welcome people as God welcomes. You are welcome!
Do I need to dress a certain way?
Please, come as you are. The most important preparation for worship is a need to be filled, a question to be answered, an open heart toward God who loves you and is completely good.
What is Holy Communion?
Holy Communion is the celebration of God’s gift and victory in the life and death of Jesus Christ. It is shaped by the meal Jesus gave his disciples by eating bread and drinking some wine (or grape juice). It is a celebration of the love of God in Jesus. Through it we know the full forgiveness of our sins. In the bread (body of Christ) we receive Jesus’ abundant life and healing that Jesus promised (Jesus said, “I am the bread of life”) In the wine (blood of Christ) we receive his mercy through the forgiveness of our sins. There is no sin that we have committed that is not covered by the death of Jesus on the cross and the blood that he shed.
Come to Holy Communion as a celebration of God’s love for you, as a declaration of God’s victory over sin and death, and as the model of how you will live in love toward others.
May I take Holy Communion without being a member?
Yes. If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ as savior and yielded your will to Him in baptism as Lord, you are welcome and encouraged to be renewed in God’s wonderful love for you in this meal and receive what Jesus has to offer.
How do I get married in or through the church?
Contact the pastor as early as you are able to find an available date for the pastor and the church. Also allow time to meet with the pastor. Just as you work hard at planning a wedding, let this time with the pastor be a time of investing in your relationship.
How do I join St. John Lutheran Church?
